The thing about clutter is..

you have to eliminate it from every part of your life. This includes material possessions, personal beliefs, catch-phrases, songs, memories, photographs, relationships and people.

Now this last bit might seem like an unpopular opinion, even an extremely cold and self-serving one (and I have been accused of this) but I see no point in suffering the alternative.

While I have conscientiously practiced this for a long time now, the absolute certainty of it hit me this morning. I am absolutely sure that this is the only way forward, to un-muddle what is, and make way for what is to come.

To not hold on to things/people, just to have things/people around.

Are you giving your energy to people, spaces, thoughts, tasks that don’t serve you? That distract you from the path you’re on or leave you feeling like less of yourself? Can you declutter without bitterness or resentment? And if so, isn’t that a good thing?

The thing is though — that when you do, when you remove the thing/person — you feel a rush of certainty. Embrace it — don’t dilute it with self-doubt. Ride that wave knowing that ebb and flow is all we are guaranteed.

Being ok with things not being the same is the best lesson you can teach yourself. If it means feeling alone, feel it — but once you are done feeling alone, remember the few that are teaching, shaping, growing you.

Remember, that maybe you are also teaching, shaping growing someone else. And, decluttering is an on-going process…
